Processors share thoughts on what they need to compete and win today
Food processors attending the recent International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) shared thoughts on what they need to win in today’s competitive food business: Simplicity, automation and adaptation to customer tastes. Here’s what they had to say.
- Simplicity & Sanitation — Trade show-weary processors’ eyes lit up when they learned what makes FPS equipment stand out. In a word: simplicity and sanitation. Ok, that’s two words, but they go hand in hand. Everybody agreed that food safety recalls, difficult
sanitation, and maintenance down-time are profit killers. One visitor said, “Your equipment caught my eye because it’s simple” – a benefit echoed by many others. And they’re right. FPS’s innovative vibratory conveyors provide a highly sanitary way to align, grade, spread, converge or simply move your product along the line.
- Hands Off – Whether it’s finding reliable employees, retaining staff in a competitive labor market or reducing labor costs, personnel issues are a top concern. Processors frequently ask FPS to help improve production efficiency and control labor costs. They can see the advantages incorporating FPS vibratory conveyors to reduce human touches throughout production. In one recent installation, simply replacing a standard wire belt conveyor with an FPS aligning shaker redirected 10 employees from low-value chicken-handling duty, while improving efficiency throughout the line. FPS is ready to design a conveying solution that reduces product handling and improves your human resource management.
- More Styles Than Homestyle — At FPS, we recognize that our customers have customers. And these days, those customers love their chicken. Restaurant Business Magazine recently reported that 44 percent of consumers want restaurants to offer more chicken options, and a Technomic FoodMonitor study says two in five consumers choose fried as their chicken style of choice. Recognizing the opportunity, Processors are responding with options such as ethnic styles with thinner seasoned coatings, alternative coatings, including potato starch, and a skinnier version of home-style that doesn’t sacrifice its crispy goodness. Whatever the trend, processors are seeking equipment that provides flexibility to handle production nuances. Solutions like FPS’s tumble breaders, with their vibratory technology and patented recycle system, can help you feed the next generation of consumer preferences.
